I have spent the last two weeks in Xiamen, China. I expected to post while I was there and let you know what was going on, but it seems the site was blocked in China and I was never able to access it. I’m home now. Tired, but it was a successful trip for work, and an amazing experience.

Many apologies. I hope you’re all well.

And another day without power yesterday afternoon and most of today. The neighbor’s construction crew dug into the line and shorted it, taking down the power for three properties, including ours. We’re powered again.

I’m leaving Sunday for two weeks in Xiamen, China. Work will keep me busy the first week, and the second one is for exploration and vacation. I’ll try to check in here to say hi.

I have it, and have alerts set, planning to close today. Soon. Up 6.10 per share as of now on the last third. 1500 shares on this trade because it was a 13 buck stock, and hooked a live one. I expect to bank over 4k on this trade. The investment, if you will, was 20k 2 days ago. The stuff marketing letters are made of. But as the saying goes, the more I practice the luckier I get. This is one of my best trades of the year, and puts me back on top despite the slow down in revenue occasioned by my switching broker platforms to Mosaic. On top as relates to TY vs LY net profit,of course. This year has a solid shot at being my best yet. Thanks for asking. Did you get out early yesterday? I’m taking off Monday, Browns Steelers game Sunday and a big party downtown.

Yep, IB is my go to because of the availability of shorts and the low commissions. Expenses fall rght to the bottom line so cutting them does too. Duh. But it all adds up, big tiime before long, percentage wise if nothing else. I also use TDA/TOS. Thanks for the congrats!

@Ross – It looks, in retrospect, SWKS might have been a good overnight hold. Nice breakaway gap. Finished strong.

    • Ross B. 2:03 pm on July 21, 2014 Permalink | Reply

yes, often with a breakaway, it consolidates then goes higher, and many times you have two or three up days. that’s why I’ve been taking more trades where I swing the last third of my position. I’ve had some great success with it, but by and large it hasn’t been worth tying up the capital with a larger stop loss than I would allow daytrading and I’m reconsidering the strategy. SWKS would have been a winner though.

        • Ross B. 3:28 pm on July 21, 2014 Permalink | Reply

actually, after revisiting it post your comment, I opened a half short term swing position. My reasoning is the breakaway gap is behaving strongly, with good vol and follow through with the market internals so negative, Vix hi, TRIN hi, etc, together with the vol strong on SWKS and MACD positive as well.

What a magnificent statue the Daibutsu (Great Buddha) of Kamakura is. In my one day off this week, I made the 90-mile trip to Kamakura to see the Great Buddha. Spectacular. Made in AD1252 from solid bronze, it is 13.4 meters tall and weighs 121 tons.

Very welcome. This has been a great trip. Not only is Japan amazingly fascinating, but our modification is going almost perfectly – we haven’t had to remake a single part, and the only problems we have had have been the kinds of things typical of these mods, and our design is robust enough that we’ve been able to recover from.

I’ll be here another couple of weeks. I’m sipping a nice Japanese beer and headed to bed.

        Great trading!

I’m still in Japan, and our mod is still going well. I’m making friends here and having a great time on the half day a week I get to explore one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever been. It’s a shame that work gets in the way. Here are a couple of pics from the Meiji Temple in the Harajuku area of Tokyo. The huge gates are called Torii, and are made from hinoki, a Japanese cypress, and the pieces trees used were 1500 years old. The biggest Torii is 12m tall and 17m wide.

The barrels hold sake, and each one is about 18 to 24 inches tall. The busy street is Takeshita Street in Harajuku, and was just jammed with people. I didn’t find anything too interesting along it except for the people themselves.

I miss you all. Wish I could trade, but my mind is so focused on work, I just can’t right now. I’ll be here through the end of March, and then I’m not sure how long afterwards.

The sushi here is out of this world good, and I’ve eaten some very strange things. There’s a local sake brewer who makes excellent sake. My Japanese friends are all business during the day, and a lot of fun to spend time with in the evening. Work is work, but play is play.

Great trading to you all. A few photos to enjoy.

I hope you are all well. I’m not able to get into this room often. The time difference means that the trading day is right in the middle of my night, starting at 11:30pm. On the other hand, the food here is terrific, the people are courteous and friendly to the extreme, our mod is coming along quite well, and the cultural sites are spectacular.

I made this photo of the Narita-san temple last night. It’s just a short bus ride and about a 1km walk from my hotel in Narita. I’ve been there a number of times, and on the way I pass one of the finest yakitori restaurants I’ve ever visited.

    Good trading!
